Sometimes, asking the question "What do we stand to lose?" can be a powerful and meaningful way to understand and measure the values of our society and the world on a global scale. After watching this AWESOME documentary, what are your thoughts? You may wish to respond to the following points: - What role do citizens play in environmental action? - What role COULD/SHOULD citizens play in environmental action? - What values do you think should shape economic decisions connected to climate change? Why? - What political and economic decisions should Canadians make to respond to climate change? - What political and economic decisions should Canadians make to protect biodiversity?

I thought the movie lclearly stated its point with inviroment issues, and not just oil tankers. The one thing I didnt like about the movie was it seemed to have more surfing and paddle boarding then nesesary. It did help show how much we need water though. Environmental issues are huge for everything. I think the ultimate thing is the inviroment is more important then money, as well as health and safety

I liked this documentary, it basicaly talks about how easily the environment of the coast could be destroyed by one oil spill. There are ships that carry oil and travel in this area. This could be fatal to their environment and possibly even ours in far more than one way. BCs coast supplys ALOT of fish, a spill like that could take that away from us very quickly. Therefore i am on the environment side.

I thought that it was good for someone to raise awareness in a way like that. They made the next generation open there eyes to realize that there would be no food and no water to do fun stuff in such as paddle boarding. why doesn't the gov just keep the fishing and tourism trade instead of the oil tankers. the fishing and tourism is alot less riskily for affect on the environment which means if there were to be a event happen it would probably cost alot less to clean up. and it creates the same amount of revenue and costs way less to upkeep.

i was interested in the document.the role that we and the government should focus on is using less environmental damaging substances. examples of this is that we can ride bikes, carpool, walk, or find a more efficient cars.

I believe citizens not only has a part in the envirmental issue but should do more work then the government. Not only a partition to stop oil tankers coming in but if a citizen went to the garbage masses and just grabbed all the aluminuim. The gorvernment would only spend money on these issues but a citizen could do these things for free or wen make a profit. Why should you and I pay for these things when I could help while not going out of my way at all. I pick up cans at the orgy park and make a quick buck. Or I can get a government to spend a lot of money on it.

I personally don't think that we should put the oil pipelines through because it would effect pur environment which will effect animals. It will also effect our economy majorily. It will effect the environment which will effect the animals because if the oil leaks then the water/lake is ruined. If the water is ruined that means that the aquatic animals' habitats are ruined completely. They will have no where to live. Which decreases pur biodiversity. It'll decrease our economy because someone has to pay for it. Just to put in the pipeline, it'll cost around $500 billion not including if there is an oil spill. The oil spill will cost at a minimum $10 billion dollars.

In the documentary Stand, an environmental issue of whether or not to not an oil pipeline should be distributed throughout the Pacific Ocean. If an oil spill occurs, not only will so many people lose their jobs, but it will greatly affect the bio diverse species living in the ocean right now. The government and large industries should consider that when a spill occurs, toxins and harsh chemicals will harm the species in the ocean, which they call 'home.'

I feel that although yes this is an issue and yes the coast is beautiful. I love the culture and nearly everything about it; Most of all I agree with the movie. I am angry with the fact that there is never any middle ground, that there is only pretend middle ground and almost nothing more. whether its the oil tycoons pretending to care about the environment or the people this movie represent suggesting that there are other options, and then suggesting that same thing every time a new option is created. I feel that citizens should have a slightly larger role in environmental action such as not littering and using energy efficiently but in this discussion I feel that neither the citizens nor the government are in control, as per usual the 3rd most powerful force is industry and corporation and they need to have much less of a role..

I honestly I think that making those tankers go across the coast is a very bad idea. Along that coast reported winds have gotten to 180km per/hr and waves that have been up to 20m high. As someone said it's not a matter of if the oil splits it's a matter of when. It'll ruin the west coast and the peoples way of living.

I think that citizens have a huge role in the decisions environmentally. I think that they should too. In the end they should have the biggest say because if something goes wrong then they are the ones who have to deal with the aftermath. Not talking cleaning up or anything but just like having to live with the environment. All that they have ever known will change.

-I believe that currently citizens involve decision making by backing up certain things and showing their surrort. Really we are involved by opinion

I liked this documentry. It shows that if we don't care for our environment then it'll cause a big oil spill. It also showed how important water is! If we don't care for the environment and an oil spill does occur, then we won't exactly be able to do a lot of the activities we enjoy doing, for example, swimming or surfing, paddle boarding etc.

The movie really showed all the problems that are going on in these area's and I think people should really start to stand up to these problems that are being presented in this documentary which is happening a little bit but not much. I think that all those tankers can go somewhere else maybe even take a different route to there destination in calmer waters were capsizing is less of a risk....

The biodiversity will be greatly reduced. Let's not forget on the route the ships would take goes right through whales hunting grounds. These pipelines and ships will provide lots of short term jobs but after everything is built there would be about 200 long term jobs and only paying 2 million dollars which is equivalent to the amount of money the ocean industries are already making
