Critical Thinking Challenge: "How could being a Canadian citizen affect your individual identity or collective identity?"
Many of use are who we are because of where we've lived, who we've met and talked to and the multitude of experiences we've had in our life. For many young people, collective and individual identity is reflective of their upbringings. Why do we, as Canadians, value certain things over others? How does this change how we respond to government policy or issues in our country and world? Note: Identity can be both collective and individual; it does not have to be one or the other. |
What Kind of Canada Would You Want?
- In small groups, you will be responsible for creating a Canada of your design. See the Simulation Task #2 for more details. Gun Control is a hot topic in Canada. The Long Gun Registry was scrapped by Stephen Harper's Conservative Government over a year ago now. This issues was controversial because of the different responses to the issue: guns in society and their harm. Read on page 11 in your textbook the different opinions, do some research using the buttons below. Post your thoughts on Gun Control in Canada and if the Long Gun Registry should be reinstated in Canada.
