I was on the against team I feel good for speaking up for the seals because they don't have a voice we need to speech up for the seals!

I was on the For team. I feel like the seals have had a long run of being "clubbed" and "drowned in their own blood" both have been proved humane (the hipakak to hit the seals) and fake (they have a reflex looking like their alive even though their dead). We should keep the seal hunt because it provides jobs and shelter and food and money. If we just completely get rid of the Seal Hunt, millions of people would have to make a new living, like moving away from thier homes for a new job.

Yeah, i see your point. But i did alittle reaserach and i found out that they do choke on there blood while there reflects are to swim away. but i guess they are dead when they try to swim away. So first they choked then they try to swim. Witch it wont work beacause they havent had there first swim yet.

I agree with the money and shelter part but with the seal hunt, I think we could decrease the amount of seal deaths and still have enough of money to live

I see the against team. Saying its wrong beacause there leaving the bodys there. But i also see the for team. They need it for a job. they need money to survive for there k

I think that the seals are going to go extinct and everyone is taking them for advantage cause they can't swim cause they still have there baby fur.how I feel about the debate was it was really interesting I really liked it it was fun .Agood point that my team made was that it was illigal to kill baby seals for there fur .My general opinion about the commercial seal hunt is that is rude and it has a lot of disadvantages tow

Only just to correct you, seal population has TRIPLED since the 1980's. The seal hunt may be bad, but it's not going to do much of a dent in the population of all the hunted seals.

(I forgot the point bit, whoops) I found that Jacobs point, about how we hunt bears only for a few parts of the bears that we are not getting enraged about that. I mean, those bears are literally left for dead and are eaten, but that happens anyways, it's technacilly the circle of life/nature/the wild.

I agree that this seal hunt should continue and it's good for Canada's economy. As you said bears are going extinct but it's only certain species that are going extinct (ex. Grizzly bears and Polar bears are starting down that path). I also agree that the seals are not the only animals that are getting killed and maybe instead of only people fighting for the seals what about the bears but I still encourage both hunts to continue.

And to Jacob's point on my reply to his reply, Think about all the other animals that are killed cruelly then we only take the meat or the bones and such. Why are we only making a big deal about the seals, when other animals are killed in worse ways
Callum

There were lots of really good points but one point was use all of the seal like the meat and the fur instead of just using the fur. You could use the meat.

I was totally against the seal hunt. But our debate opened my eyes a lot so now I am for the seal hunt. A good point that I thought was made was that over hunting the seals could vastly disturb the environment up in Northeren Canada.

When the debate began I was of the for side and now after the debate I'm still for the seal hunt. There were a lot of good points during the debate but one that really stuck out to me was when Callum was talking about the seal bodies rotting on the ice, well where would the nutrients go to? It made me think about what would the corpse do just rotting there. People should at least do stuff with the body like eat the meat or something so it doesn't hurt the environment. In my opinion the seal hunt should continue but we should use the meat for food or something and since it's illegal to kill the baby seals with white fur maybe they should kill the older ones. Or lower the amount that the sealers are allowed to kill. In my option the solution is to lower the amount of seals you can kill so the seal population can continue through the younger seals.

I am against the seal hunt because all the comments about what the seal hunt can do is really horrible, but the one about pollution is the one that made me think over again. The seal hunt is a way of extinction to a lot of animals. I think the solution to the seal hunt is to make a law of not hunting seals, so anyone who hunts a seal will go to jail.

Yes killing the seals is bad but, there is so many out there and if we kill like maybe only 215,000 seals a year that is barely indenting on the population. Over killing yes i agree if someone is killing seals for their own good, they should be punished.

You did a good job on your post. and i do agree with you. i was wondering the same thing with how far do they take the bodies away from the water. I also didnt agree on your comment when you said that the population of the seal was high. But you realized that we were talking about e harp seals. and how there gunna take over the world. haha :) Sure they are hight. But doesnt mean they need to higher the quota of how many seals they want. But good job on the debate!! You were very stong with your opinions. Good job brynna!! :)

Sadly I wasn't here for the debate but I heard about many of the points. I am not completely for the commercial seal hunt and I would be more okay with it if the lowered the amount of seals killed a year. I am also not okay with the part the they don't use the meat. If they want to make an industry out of the fur then they should make an industry out of the meat as well. At first I was upset with the fact that they killed baby seals but then I understood it was for their fur. I totally understood both sides points. I do feel bad for the seals though.

I was in the middle, but on the against side. A good point that I really liked was one about the buffalo. It stated that we used to have two species, now we have none. I had a lot of questions about that like.... What's going to happen to the harp seals? I'm more on the for side now they had really good points. :) is their a solution? I don't know honestly. I don't really think so.

Even after the debate, I still am against it, even though there was some good points on why it should continue, I just can't stand what are happening to the seals. A good point for example is that there is still a lot of seals left so it's not a problem yet. A solution? Well, 1. Stop blaming Canada. 2. Stop making people feel bad by video taping the seals being hurt.

When the depate was over I was still very against the seal hunt even though I was not there. When we were preparing for the seal debate a very good seal debate pointer was what about the ecosystem? What if the seals went extinct and the animals that ate them died because they had nothing to eat? The ecosystem would once again be ruined or destroyed by something silly like over hunting. We can still make a difference in our lives and their lives. Even though seals only have seal languages that doesn't mean that we don't have to keep quiet and watch them die we can be their voice for them. If say the seal hunt ended and the workers didn't have jobs what would they do? Well my comment is that why don't you go to college and get a degree to something awesome, invent things and do things amazing. The workers could have amazing jobs and have great lives forever, and ever, and ever.

I was on the against side even though if i had a say,I would've made a team for and against side I think that the seal hunt is good and bad.The food change could be damaged plus the seals could go extinct in twenty years because we would hunt them more than they could repopulate(you have to think of the long term consequences). And other countries could completely stop trade with Cannada. But the seal hunt is important to Newfoundlands economy and it has a traditional value.being a connection we have with our ancestors because it was and is part of the fur trade. But yes.i think the seal hunt is good and bad.

However I don't think it is possible for the seals go extinct if we handle the hujt responsibly, so I disagree with you on that note. Although I love the point you just made about Newfoundlands economy. People need jobs we can't hust take that away from them

We'll I still am for it because it creates jobs. And it all so creates revenue. for the people. that we kill over 1 billion rabbits and we all so kill 1 million sharks each year. My general a pinyon is that is the seal hunt should go on even throw that some people think it is barbaric. I do not because it is a quick and easy way to kill the seals so ya that's what I think.
