Special Project: 9/11 Anniversary
Where were you when the Twin Towers fell?
Many young people have little to no recollection or factual knowledge of what was occuring on September 11, 2011. Considering that most students in class were 2 or 3 years old when this event occured, it is a great opportunity to work on our expressive writting skills and cover current events at the same time. We focused our study on a four part documentary called "Inside 9/11: Zero Hour". It was a very emotionally draining two days. We also investigated the Comissioners Report on 9/11 (published by a comittee in the United States) to try to understand the most frequently asked questions of "WHY" this happened. We discussed the political environment of the United States under George Bush and how that may have precipitated the events of 9/11. We also discussed the ideological war that resulted because of the events on September 11, 2001. This year, we will focus on more of the Political Science aspect of things and try to determine how important 9/11 was to shaping the history of North America. How far reaching are the consequences of 9/11? Have we truly dealt with this event? Or is it still affecting us today? |
